“Student to Student Cycles

Student to Student Cycles is a new UCLU scheme aimed at creating a second hand bike trade for all UCL staff and students.

The scheme is part of the UCLU Bike Logic project which aims to expand and improve union cycling services. As part of this expansion, UCLU is opening a permanent workshop where parts, accessories and bicycles can be bought.  This student hub is due to be up and running by December and will act as a base for a permanent workshop, second hand bike trade, in addition to a shop offering affordable parts and accessories. At present, a space on Hampstead Road is available; however this is open to change.

The student bike trade is one of the main ideas in the project.  As of June 2013, staff and students will be able to buy and sell their bicycles to the union throughout the year at the new Bike Logic Hub.  This idea, ‘Student to Student Cycles’,  aims to provide a fleet of affordable, good quality road and commuter bikes by recycling used bikes and repairing them to industry standards.

The scheme is also designed to combat the all too often illegitimate trade in second hand bikes in the capital. All bikes will be checked with police before sale and a private record of buyers and sellers will be kept for added security.  In this way, staff and students will be able to access affordable bikes with a security guarantee.

We are now looking for bikes to purchase and build up our supply before September. These bikes will then be repaired and made ready for sale. Bikes for sale will be available online at the Bike Logic website uclu.org/bikelogic (currently under renovation) and also for sale from the hub premises.

If you have a bike you’re looking to sell, whatever the condition, then come down to the Lewis building on Gower Street between Thursday 13th to Friday 21st 09.00 – 17.00. Here we’ll assess it’s worth and name you a price.
