For all those who have ever spotted anyone skating down the streets of London and thought: “man that looks cool, I wish I could do that!” – here’s how you get on the path to becoming England’s best rollerblader:
1. You can sign up for a beginners’ course here. New courses start early February 2012, so book soon!
2. And even more courses here – in very attractive locations, such as Hyde Park, and also boasting good reviews, for instance from the Financial Times.
3. Some shops offer free skating lessons if you buy a pair of skates – check www.freeskatelesson.co.uk for more details.
4. Here’s a great incentive – once you know how to skate (you have to be able to stop comfortably), you can join in one of the different city rides: London Friday Night Skate, Easy Peasy (Saturday mornings), or Rollerstroll (2pm Sundays). General info on all of these can be found here.
I have to say, after writing this post I do feel like signing up for one of those myself! Those Saturday and Sunday rides look like lots of relaxed fun (the Friday ones are for slightly more advanced users).
